Product detailed description
In connection with the 30th anniversary of the fall of the communist regimes in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes is publishing a comprehensive Dictionary of Dissidents, subtitled Leading Personalities of Opposition Movements in Communist Countries 1956-1989. This two-volume publication (over 1500 printed pages) describes dissident movements in a total of 21 countries of the former "socialist camp".
The dictionary, which is published by the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes for the lay and professional public, is valuable not only for its compiled overviews of events in the countries concerned and the medallions of important opposition figures, but also for its introductory studies, which place individual information and events, especially from the period 1956-1989, in both national and international contexts. The two volumes were produced over 11 years by several hundred people in dozens of national editorial offices. The programme board of the Czech editorial office consisted of Petr Pospíchal and Petruška Šustrová. She is also the translator of both volumes, which were first published in Polish by agreement of the national programme boards.
