The story of Dr. Johann Faust, who made a pack with the devil in order to attain the knowledge of life and the mysteries of the world with his help - it is one of the basic themes of European culture, and there are countless literary, musical and artistic adaptations. At the beginning, there is a German book published in Frankfurt am Main in the 1670s. In 1611 it was translated into Czech by the humanist Martin Carchaeus and this book became the starting point of tradition in Czech literature. The modern edition of Carchesio´s translation in 1989 was prepared and the introductory study. Now his edition is published for the second time and it is revised by the study of Matouš Jaluška.
